Wouldn’t you know it, but my lovely Blue Curacao nails did not last long.  It seems that if you grab your washing out of the dryer the moment it ‘bings’ at you, then your nail polish is likely to melt.  EEK!

At 4:30ish in the afternoon, I didn’ t have enough time to do any more colour work.  So I got a little inventive, as I am getting to like having ’special’ nails.

So I put my Nail Envy on, and pulled out some decals.  Nothing hugely fancy as the decals are doing all the work.  But it’s a nice way of having fancy nails that aren’t OTT.

I painted my nails blue this morning.  Chi Chi “Toy Boy” in fact.  It’s very much a Blue Curacao blue.  I was marvelling at the colour and slight sparkle, when it hit me.  As pretty as the polish was, plain nails seemed boring.  Seems that I’ve been looking at too much nail art.

I have dance class tonight, so no time for lots of painting, so I pulled out the decals and thought I’d go for a tipped look.  Not quite a proper French Manicure.. but it’s certainly in the spirit..

I’m quite shocked that my nails have lasted this long, really.  They usually break or split well before this length.  But thanks to my OPI Nail Envy, they’re doing really well.  I’m certainly not being precious with them at all, and I think that they’re really loving the attention.

One thing is for sure, though.  I certainly need more colours than what I have.  More pinks, and a ligher blue-red as a start!

In my last post I spoke about how I am starting do DO things with my hair and nails.  The hair has pretty much only had the colour done, and I might get it shaped again before winter sets in, just to make it easier to set.  But my nails have been getting a workout.

First was some lovely denim blue polish and a few musical decals, then the dark purple polish and a lot of filigree style decals.  I love the decals!  But I have found that they really need a good top coat over them to protect them.  I don’t have a really good top coat yet, so they only lasted a couple of days.  I didn’t mind so much, as I finished them too close to going to bed, so I got sheet crinkle nails in the end.

My latest nail’do, is a cute polka dot’n'bow number.  Done all with polishes, no decals or bumpy bits in sight, because until I get a good topcoat, there’s no point.  The original tutorial for this style uses a rhinestone in the centre of the bow, which really defines it.  I will definitely be checking out the nail art supplies on Ebay, there are so many COOL things available.  But I’ll also be trialling some paint only techniques.  Let’s face it.  With a 3 year old who likes to be an arm monkey, chunky bits on my nails just aren’t practical for me.  I also like having nice looking nails, but don’t want to be overly precious about them.

Basically I need to get me some more colours, some nice brushes and some sparkly bits for special occasions I also need to get better with painting with my left hand.  I can see me having a LOT of fun with keeping my nails pretty.  Let’s face it, the pretty nail polish is the only thing stopping me from chomping on them as I’m distracted.

I turned 34 this week.  So I thought I’d do 2 things to celebrate.

Dye my hair “reddish”, and do something different with my nails.

So I did.

I’m very happy with how the dye came out, I think I’d like a little more red the further into winter we go, however.  I enjoy having red hair, it seems to be my ‘go to’ colour when I don’t know what to do with my hair.  It’s also pretty easy to maintain.  And yes, those curls are natural. I think my naturally curly hair is advantageous as I don’t really have to do much to my hair (just a little John Frieda Curl Booster), to have it behave and look pretty. Setting my hair of a night, does make my hair nice and voluminous, but doesn’t really add to the curl at all.

I have been growing my nails after a long stint of biting them constantly. So I thought it was time I had a little fun with them. The nailpolish is “b” by Bloom in the New York colour, which is a deep purple.  It was a birthday gift from my friend Issy.  The decals I bought at a Petit Ange stall.  I went over the top with this set, but I don’t care, it is fun! I probably wouldn’t have this much bling on my nails ALL the time, but every once in a while … sure! I will certainly buy more decals, though.
