A Hidden Gem!

For the people in the know, the Crowle Foundation not only does great charity work and support for mentally disabled people, but part of their fundraising efforts is the selling of donated craft and sewing supplies!

I made my first trip over there last Friday and came away with a single piece of fabric for a future bag project for $4.80.  I went over there today and came back with lining fabric for said bag project, cotton fabric for a couple of crowle aprons, 3 teddy bear patterns, a dozen varied zippers, bag handles for a different bag and a skein of Naturally Sensations!  I came away spending only $26!

So you get a great bargain, PLUS the feel good sensation of knowing that the money you spend goes directly to the foundation.  I will certainly be making it my first stop shop for future projects.  There are just so many treasures to be uncovered!

Finally, Something To Work With!

After a month of agonisingly refraining from nibbling on stubs of what used to be my nails….

nails

I have un-stubs!  They’re almost the perfect length for me, so I’ll be starting some nail / cuticle treatments this weekend to ensure that when I start drawing attention to my nails, they’ll look as good as they can.

I envisage either a french polish or stunning red for my birthday… or maybe even a shocking pink with some nail art.

How, though, am I coping with not chewing away at my nails?  I really don’t know how I’m doing it.  I think keeping otherwise entertained or busy with my hands is helping.  I’m trying really hard to get a few projects moving, both with my Vintage venture and in my craft life.   So maybe that has helped my nails become a little more attractive.

In The Works

I have a project in the planning stages that is something totally new for me. It’s not strictly a craft project in itself, but it will refer to and be about craft. I don’t want to give away too much, but I am very excited about it and will be sharing it with you all very soon!

So I Thought I’d Jump In and Try

After not being able to get my hands on a Tutorial off “Living Creatively”, due to the website being down, I thought I’d just take a bash at it.

Pyramid Pouch!
It took a while for my spatial headspace to get there, but I finally nutted it out. I’ll post a pic as soon as I finish the edges with bias.

A Little Touch of Nice

bluewillow This is my Blue Willow Morning Tea set.  I bought it from Victoria’s Basement so that I would have a nice, but sturdy set for my Knitters’ Guild meetings.  It is lovely to drink from, so I find myself using it just about every day.

I enjoy my single tea cup and saucer sets.  I have 6 now, and it really is the best way to enjoy tea.

A Little on The Square Side

I’ve made my first Boxy!  I’m not 100% happy with the process, so I’ll be working on it until I’m happy and can whip one out in under 20 minutes.

Variations on a Theme

Ok.. well after a full cuff and pattern repeat, I realised that I was using the wrong size needles and the socks were HUMUNGOUS!

So froggity frog they went.  But I still needed a small, relatively easy sock pattern that would work on the 2.5mm needles I did have.

I completely forgot about the Leyburn Sock pattern that I’ve been dying to make ever since I made a pair of fingerless mitts using the same stitch pattern. Even better?  They’re toe up!  They’re written with a short row heel, but plenty of people have done alterations making it a gusset & flap heel.  So I’ll be doing that too.

I’m using a lovely sock yarn by Jolly Jumbuck, that I got from someone’s destash.  It is the same colourway that Jolly Jumbuck herself gave me in a wool/silk blend as part of a swap last year.  I thougth the silk blend was too nice to stick on my feet, so was thrilled when the wool/nylon version came up.  The silk blend version is headed for a cowl.

I’m so far just past the ball of my foot, and it’s a great little knit and they fit wonderfully!

Knitting for the Opera

No, I’m not making costumes for anyone.  But the yearly trek to the Opera in The Domain is coming up and I really don’t want to sit there with a shawl laying over me while I knit.  So small and portable is the way to go!  So I frogged an unsuccessful attempt at a toe up sock that I was trying to design, and decided to use someone elses pattern.  It had to be easy enough that I wouldn’t need to concentrate TOO hard, but not so dull that I would be utterly bored knitting it.

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde won out.  Newly released pattern that has a 4 stitch, 8 row repeat.  NICE!  I chose one of my own dyed sock yarns in the Amethyst colour (I have a bit of a purple thing at the moment) and have cast on the first sock.  The plan is to knit the cuff and the first pattern repeat and then cast on the 2nd sock and get it to the same point, so from then on I’m knitting both at once.

I’m hoping that at the very least I’ll have both legs completed and MAYBE the heel turned by the time it gets too dark to knit.

I Bought a Notebook

Not a computer, but a paper notebook.  Why?  Well, I figure I’d like to have one handy that I can jot things down that I want to do (NOT a to-do list), or if I see patterns I want to gettry, or sketch if the muse is with me.  It’s only small, but it’s pretty, and I hope over the course of the next year it will be a source of inspiration and maybe even a form of taking account of what I’m doing for myself.

A Negative Year Ahead

I have stash issues.

No, really.  A lot of stash.  I have a big Yarn, Fibre and Fabric stash.  And I think 2010 needs to see it reduce to almost a project by project level (with a few pets).  If for no other reason than I’m running out of storage space.

My aim is by the end of February I’ll have taken a full inventory (of what I can find) and will do a tally at the end of each month thereafter as to what I’ve used and bought with a running total.

I’ve seen some of my fellow bloggers do this with their yarn stash, and I thought it would be a great way to help me keep a check on what I have, make sure I use what I have got already, and that I don’t double up on things I don’t really need.

It will also drive me to use what I have, and destash what I don’t see myself using in 48 months.  I don’t churn out enough stuff to say 6 or 12 months, so I figured 48 was a good time frame for me.

So at the end of each month, I should have used more Yarn, Fibre or Fabric than I have purchased (which shouldn’t be too hard….. I hope).
