Watching the By Royal Variety performance on Ovation tonight, there was an excerpt from Wicked the Musical shown, and guess who plays the Wizard of Oz?? NEIL FROM THE YOUNG ONES!! When I pointed at the TV and said the previous, all I got was a blank stare and a “Who?”.
**falls.off.chair**
I then jumped onto MSN to ask two of my friends who are ‘around’ the same age as my husband, and begged that they knew who The Young Ones were. No.. they did not…
I feel this may be a defining difference between GenXers and GenYers. Me, being a GenXer, had the references to The Young Ones, and afterwards Rik Mayal, whereas my husband and friends (the GenYers) maybe didn’t have a GenXer to introduce them, my sister did, however. LOL..
For those of you who don’t know who The Young Ones are, here is their big ‘hit’ song with Cliff Richard.
I am currently spinning an epic proportion of laceweight singles in a beautiful Optim/Soy/Bamboo blend. Ok.. sure it’s only 200g worth, but 60g FILLS a bobbin! So in between bobbins I am spinning ‘little’ things to give me a little break.
I’m also using these “little spins” to try some new things. I bought 50g of a Merino/silk blended tops at the Bendigo show, so thought I’d try something with it. I spun the singles worsted at roughly a laceweight, then beaded some rayon plying thread with some beads and spun a little as a 2ply with beads spaced sporadically through the yarn. There’s about 14g of that. I then decided to ply the rest as a “four ply chain”, or a “4 ply navajo”. All I really did, was navajo the fibre, while carrying the rayon plying thread. And here is what came of it.
I’m really happy with the results, and it’s destined to be a cowl
I was tagged by LibraryLass.
Thanks for the tag and here are the rules:
1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking to them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged
3. Thinking of your own quirks is hard! As much as I can babble on, I equally enjoy being very quiet and I’m more likely (if driving by myself) to drive without any music or the radio on.
I love reading, and get very involved in the stories to the point of yelling at the book.
I love knitting, but tend to feel guilty if I’m knitting something to keep for myself.
I’m a beverage snob. Whether it’s tea, coffee or hot chocolate.. it’s gotta be the good stuff!
I love accessories! Not just fashion accessories, but computer accessories, accessories to go with hobbies/crafts/interests. I find myself finding ways to have accessories.
I’m a closet gamer. I play World of Warcraft.
This is Noro Kureyon Sock yarn. It seems to be a slightly fulled single ply in a fingering weight (4ply). It looks handspun, so has a nice rustic feel to it. I got it originally in an OS bulk order with some other Ravellers. I chose a colourway that was slightly out of my comfort zone. It is colour 188, which has silvers, lilacs, blacks, violets, lavenders, magenta purples, limes, olives and colours in between. It reminds me of Violets and Pansies, of Wicked Witches and Faeries. I think it is beautiful.

I am just waiting for a set of 2.5mm needles to knit it with (I swatched on 2.75’s and the fabric was too floppy). It will be a pair of socks and maybe a headband, pending what the yardage yields.
A lot of people have not been 100% happy with the construction of the yarn, eg: too thick/thin for a good sock etc, but i’ve just put it through the ball winder, and there were a few thicker parts, none that were awefully thin, only 1 piece of VM (apparantly this is a problem in the original Kureyon yarn), and only 3 knots (I was expecting at least 10). It’s not as rough when knitting with it as it feels in the ball, and the colour changes are amazing.
I went to a spinning class yesterday, as I want to have more control over what I’m producing. I mean, I’ve done one one day workshop 2 years ago, and everything else has pretty much been ’self taught’ by playing and reading/watching stuff on the internet.. so I’m not doing too badly. But everything I was shown made SO much sense. Linda (teacher) is ready to really get me up and off with control, and I have to prep some actual fleece for my next lesson. I really want to be able to think “I’d like to spin a laceweight” and actually spin consistently for the amount required (or any other weight I might need for a project). I think my plying is ok, although I don’t monitor twists per inch or anything.
I have decided that I will be sticking with Tabitha for the next 6-12 months as my sole wheel. After that, I’ll decide whether I want to upgrade to an Ashford Joy or Majacraft Suzie (for portability). Same with the drum carder. I will stick with my Ashford Mini Carder (very old model) and the next one I get will be a Strauch Finest (standard width). So that’s at least 8 months off. At least.. LOL
That’s about it, really. I need to dye more for the store, and really get into processing some of these fibres. Maybe I’ll even be able to sell some handspun yarn!
